There
are several things to be aware of when installing an ATA/66 or
ATA/100 hard drive:
If
your motherboard supports this feature, you will find that the
Primary IDE connector on the motherboard is blue. Simply line the
80 pin ribbon and plug it into the motherboard here.
A
40 pin, 80 conductor cable will have black connector on one end, a
blue connector on the other end, and a gray connector in the
middle.
Also,
the ribbon will have a notch in it.
Ultra
ATA/66 is backwards compatible with all Ultra ATA/33 systems, but
If
you use ATA/66 in an ATA/33 configuration, the speed will be
limited to ATA/33.
It
is also recommended that you install ATA/33 drives on the
Secondary IDE channel. If you place an ATA/33 on the same IDE
channel as an ATA/66 drive, performance will be greatly reduced. |
